Check whether videos are the problem

Go to Settings → General → iPhone Storage and see whether Photos is using a large share of device space. Apple’s storage guide describes the breakdown. A large Photos category does not prove videos are the whole problem, but it tells you where to investigate.

Open Photos → Collections → Media Types → Videos. This brings your video clips together. Media Types can also include Screen Recordings, which are easy to forget after a quick tutorial or bug report. Apple’s Media Types guide explains the collection.

Check the size of individual clips

Open a video and swipe up or tap the Info button. Photos can show the file size alongside other details; see Apple’s metadata guide. Start with long recordings and clips you recognize as high resolution. You may find that one forgotten recording matters more than many small photos.

Photos does not need to offer a size-sorted list for this method to work. Make a short shortlist of likely large clips, inspect each, and decide whether it is irreplaceable.

Keep a trustworthy copy before deleting

If a video matters but does not need to live on your phone, move it to storage you already use and verify that the copy plays from beginning to end. Keep a second copy of anything truly important. Avoid assuming that syncing to iCloud Photos means you can delete the local item and keep the iCloud original: with iCloud Photos, deleting in Photos syncs that deletion across devices.

When you delete a clip, Photos keeps it in Recently Deleted for 30 days. Check the selection before confirming and see our recovery guide if you make a mistake. Apple explains the 30-day window in its Photos deletion guide.

Build a lighter video habit

After a trip, keep the clips you would actually watch or share. Remove accidental recordings and multiple takes that add nothing. For a broader photo cleanup, read our storage-first plan.

Swyper can help review photos and videos in a feed and confirm a cleanup bin before deletion. The free tier has 15 deletes per day; unlimited deletes are Premium. The built-in Photos tools remain enough for a small video review.
