Choose the month with the clearest context
Start with last month or a quiet period, not necessarily the oldest year. Recent context makes accidental photos, temporary screenshots, and repeated takes easier to recognize. Leave a complex wedding, move, or family crisis for a focused session.
Use three passes
First remove obvious accidents and expired screenshots. Second inspect videos, screen recordings, and large files. Third compare similar photos and choose the versions that preserve the moment best. Do not force a decision on every image.
Review the batch before deletion
Open uncertain items full size, check faces and documents, and verify any backup you rely on. With iCloud Photos, deletion can synchronize across devices; Apple explains recovery and the Recently Deleted period in its Photos guide.
Keep the monthly boundary visible
Swyper lets you scroll the camera roll like a feed and place candidates in a cleanup bin for final review. Stop at the month boundary and continue another day rather than letting the session become an exhausted full-library purge.
Common questions
Which month should I clean first?
Choose a recent or low-emotion month where you remember the context. Early progress makes harder periods easier later.
Should I finish an entire month in one session?
No. Divide it by week, event, or media type when the month is large. Stop when attention drops.
Does deleting from a month album remove the original?
Deleting a library item removes it from Photos, while removing an item only from a normal album can leave it in the library. Read the confirmation carefully.
