Use the birthday field for the built-in calendar
Add the person’s birthday in Contacts, then show the Birthdays calendar in Calendar. Apple explains how to enable the Birthdays calendar in its multiple calendars guide. This keeps the date attached to the contact.
Choose the birthday alert time
Open Settings → Apps → Calendar → Default Alert Times → Birthdays and choose the notice you want. Apple lists birthdays separately from normal events in its settings documentation.
Add a repeating action when the date is not enough
Create a yearly reminder for a gift, call, card, or reservation. Add notes and an early reminder so the task arrives when it can still be completed, not only on the celebration day.
Keep one source of truth
savethedate offers a dedicated birthday list with countdowns and context. Whichever system you choose, avoid maintaining several conflicting dates across contacts, calendars, and notes.
Common questions
Do iPhone birthday events repeat automatically?
Birthdays stored in Contacts appear annually in the Birthdays calendar when that calendar is enabled.
Can I choose a different alert for one person?
Calendar’s birthday alert is generally a default. A separate event or reminder can provide a person-specific lead time and action.
Why are duplicate birthdays showing?
The same person may exist in multiple contact accounts or the date may also be entered as a separate calendar event. Review linked contacts and visible calendars.
