Let the trip finish before making hard choices
Back up irreplaceable media and wait until travel logistics are over. Tickets, reservation screenshots, maps, and receipts may still be useful on the return journey. Once they are no longer needed, move important records to the right place and remove the temporary captures.
If iCloud Photos is enabled, remember that deletion affects the synced library. Apple’s Photos guide explains the 30-day Recently Deleted period.
Remove the obvious rejects first
Start with accidental photos, pocket shots, black frames, repeated downloads, and clips that never captured the intended moment. Then open Screen Recordings and Videos; a few long clips can matter more for storage than many still photos.
Check file size by opening an item and swiping up or tapping Info. Apple lists file size among the available metadata in its information guide.
Choose a small set that tells the story
For each scene, keep a wide view, one or two strong people photos, and details that make the place memorable. Compare similar images full size, looking at expression, sharpness, and framing. Do not keep ten nearly identical photos merely because choosing one feels difficult.
Mark the strongest images as Favorites and build a trip album. The album is for finding the story; deleting is a separate decision. An image can stay in the library without belonging in the final album.
Finish with a short, reviewable delete batch
Use Apple Photos selection or review the trip in Swyper. Swyper’s cleanup bin gives you one last look before the system deletion step. Keep the batch modest, and leave uncertain items for a second session.
Afterward, check Recently Deleted while recovery is available. For the next trip, schedule a ten-minute review each evening or use our weekly cleanup routine so the final backlog is smaller.
Common questions
When should I clean vacation screenshots?
Wait until every booking, boarding pass, map, and receipt has finished its job. Move records you must keep to an appropriate place, then remove temporary travel captures.
How many photos should I keep from one scene?
There is no fixed number. Keep enough to preserve the place, people, and meaningful details without retaining every repeated frame. A wide shot, a strong people photo, and one or two details often tell a fuller story than a long sequence.
Should I delete the trip in one session?
Not if the library is large. Review by day or location and stop when your attention drops. A second pass usually makes better decisions than one rushed marathon.
